About: Headliner
The modules you see on this website are the result of a service-learning project for the fall 2018 course LIBR 569a taught by Professors Sarah Dupont and Amy Perreault. Each module poses a big question about important topics relating to components of Indigenous issues, as they relate to society and academics at UBC.
We recommend that you take the time to really consider each of the big questions for a moment before reading on. Have these questions come up for you in the past? What position do you take on these issues? Are you open to exploring alternative perspectives? What are you hoping to learn by studying these topics? If you are new to the subject and its many complex facets, this might be a lot of heady information condensed into one small space. Hang in there: moments of ‘productive discomfort’ are where the real learning happens.
After a little reflection, please continue on to our overviews of information (available under each question) and explore the tailored bibliographies for each module.
These modules do not, by any means, stand as a substitute for your own research. Rather, think of them as valuable jumping-off points that will put you in touch with relevant issues and resources that will be useful in both your classrooms and your day-to-day life. If this is a topic you already are very familiar with, perhaps the resources we have pulled and cited from to create the modules will offer you more opportunities for continued in-depth learning.
We appreciate your taking the time to consider these big questions. Remember to take care of yourself, step away for a bit if it gets too heavy, and utilize any supports that you need.
